The One Thing Every Actor Should Take OFF Their Resume
What exactly should actors list on their resumes?
The current industry standard is to include your name, contact information, credits, training, and any special skills you may have.
But lately… I’ve noticed one piece of unnecessary information that’s somehow made it to several young artists’ resumes.
Weight.
And this made me wonder… why should weight matter?
Weight does not define you.
A number on the scale should not determine which roles you play and what shows you’re cast in.
And weight certainly doesn’t show up on any other type of resume.
Therefore, weight has no business on an actor’s resume.
I realized, after several conversations, that many young actors are still listing their weights because they’ve been told to. Trusted teachers, coaches and industry professionals are giving this information to their students because that’s “just the way it is.”
If you’re an arts educator still telling your students to list their weight on a resume, please reconsider. Weight looks different on everyone… and giving this number out to casting directors and creatives can be more hurtful than you think.
If you’re an actor, take your weight off your resume and take BACK your power.
